The town of Velké Hamry and its surroundings offer a diverse array of activities – from peaceful walks and cycling trips in beautiful nature, to visits to historic landmarks, and winter sports and skiing experiences.

Palacký’s Trail
Palacký’s Trail begins at the Spálov railway stop and leads through Návarov, Haratice, and Velké Hamry all the way to Tanvald. It is named after the prominent Czech politician and historian František Palacký and winds through picturesque landscapes full of forests, meadows, and small rivers. The route is ideal for peaceful strolls and nature lovers.

Besedice Rock Labyrinth
This extensive labyrinth of sandstone rocks above Malá Skála offers romantic trails, narrow passages, and beautiful views of the Bohemian Paradise landscape. Marked routes will guide you through Kalich, Chléviště, and other interesting rock formations. A great place for a family outing or a smaller adventure in nature.

Bozkov Dolomite Caves
The Bozkov Dolomite Caves are the largest cave system in Northeast Bohemia and a protected natural monument. They offer a unique experience of the underground world, appreciated by families with children and individuals alike. The recommended way to get there is by train to Bozkov, from where it’s a 2 km walk along a marked tourist trail.

Malá Skála
Malá Skála is a picturesque village nestled in the Jizera River valley, surrounded by the Vranov rock castle and the Suché Skály ridge. It’s a popular destination for hiking and cycling trips, as well as for water sports and swimming in the Jizera River, which is highly sought after by canoeists.

Terezínka Viewpoint
Terezínka is located above Tanvald and is accessible via the red hiking trail. It offers beautiful views of the Jizera Mountains. The viewpoint was reconstructed in 2014 and is linked to a legend about the robber knight Šouf, who allegedly hid treasure here. During the repairs, a rusty helmet was indeed found. From Terezínka, you can continue further to the Muchov viewpoint.

Muchov (787 m above sea level)
Muchov is a rocky peak offering magnificent views of Smržovka, Tanvald, Plavy, and the entire surrounding area. According to legends, the spirit of Muhu from the Jizera Mountains legends resides here. At the summit are the remains of a Czech Tourists Club chalet from 1924, which burned down in 1937. Access is possible from Tanvald or Velké Hamry.

Smrk Lookout Tower (1124 m a.s.l.)
Smrk is the highest peak of the Jizera Mountains. At its summit stands a modern lookout tower, accessible all year round. A green-marked hiking trail leads to the lookout tower from Smědava via Předěl.

Mumlava Waterfall
The Mumlava Waterfall near Harrachov is one of the largest and most beautiful waterfalls in the Czech Republic. It measures approximately 10 meters and is easily accessible via an asphalt road, which is also suitable for cyclists or strollers.

Szklarki Waterfall (Poland)
This romantic waterfall is located in the Polish part of the Giant Mountains and is easily accessible via a well-marked hiking trail. The surroundings offer refreshments and the opportunity to purchase souvenirs, and it is also suitable for families with children.

Dinopark Szklarska Poręba (Poland)
Families with children will love a visit to Dinopark in Szklarska Poręba, Poland, where life-sized dinosaur models and interactive exhibits await. The park is set in a natural environment and also offers facilities for relaxation.

Tanvaldský Špičák
Tanvaldský Špičák is an excellent destination for a short walk, a bike trip, or winter sports. A chairlift from Jiřetín pod Bukovkou leads to the summit. Access is also possible via a marked green hiking trail.

Navarov Castle Ruins
The ruins of the medieval Navarov Castle date back to the first half of the 14th century and were first mentioned in 1365. In 1469, it was conquered by royal troops, in 1643 occupied by the Swedes, and a year later demolished by imperial forces. To this day, remnants of the walls, ramparts, and moats have been preserved here, offering a beautiful example of medieval military architecture. The red-marked Palacký Trail leads to the ruins from Podspálov to Tanvald.

Černá studnice (872 m above sea level)
Černá studnice is one of the most famous observation towers in the Jizera Mountains. Built from massive granite blocks, it stands 26 meters tall and is ascended by 91 steps. It offers breathtaking views of Jablonec, Liberec, Ještěd, the Jizera Mountains, the Giant Mountains (Krkonoše), and the Bohemian Paradise (Český ráj). At the summit, there is a tourist chalet with a restaurant.

Jizerka Hamlet (862 m above sea level)
Jizerka is among the highest-lying villages in the Czech Republic. Located on a plateau, it is characterized by its mountain architecture – wooden chalets and a historic school, which now houses a museum. It is an ideal starting point for hiking and cycling.

Jizerka Peat Bog – Great Jizera Meadow
This national nature reserve stretches along the border with Poland and represents the most extensive peat bog in the Jizera Mountains. It is home to protected bird species such as the black grouse and the common crane. The area boasts unique natural value.

Bílá Desná Dam Breach
A historically significant site and a beautiful natural environment. The dam breached in 1916 and today it is a place of remembrance and relaxation. A 3.7 km long trail along the water leads to it from Desná I.

Štěpánka Lookout Tower
The oldest stone lookout tower in the Jizera Mountains stands on Hvězda peak above Příchovice. It measures 24 meters and offers views of the Krkonoše Mountains, Jizera Mountains, Bohemian Paradise, and Lusatian Mountains. Refreshments and benches for seating are available nearby.

Bílá Skála Viewpoint
This viewpoint is located on the border of the Jizera Mountains and Krkonoše Mountains. The peak is adorned with a distinctive white cross and white quartzite rocks, offering beautiful views of the Jizera Mountains and Bohemian Paradise.

Špička Lookout Tower (Malý Špičák)
This modern lookout tower above Tanvald captivates with its shape resembling an inverted bobsled and its mirrored surface. It is located above the rocky cliff of Malý Špičák and is accessible via the blue or green hiking trail.

Světlý vrch Lookout Tower
This wooden lookout tower near Albrechtice stands 21 meters tall and offers panoramic views of both the Jizera Mountains and the Krkonoše Mountains. It is located about 1 km from the car park and is easily accessible via a green-marked trail.

Královka
The stone lookout tower Královka is open year-round, offering views of the wide surroundings, including the Giant Mountains (Krkonoše), Bohemian Paradise (Český ráj), Poland, and Germany. It is located next to a tourist chalet with a restaurant, playground, and parking, and is easily accessible by car.

Hlídka na Stráži
The forest park above Rokytnice offers a viewpoint featuring wooden sculptures of animals and characters from local legends. The spot is accessible via the yellow or green hiking trail from the town center and is freely accessible to the public.

Rozhledna Bramberk
The stone lookout tower from 1912 stands near Lučany nad Nisou and measures 21 meters. It offers views of Ještěd, Sněžka, Bezděz, and Černá studnice. In the vicinity, there are hiking trails and refreshment options.
